Starting Your Photography Brand
Starting Your Photography Brand: The Real Talk
Starting your own photography brand isn’t just about learning your camera ,that’s honestly the easy part. The real chaos? Everything that happens outside of the camera. Figuring out your services, deciding if you’re doing outdoor shoots, indoor setups, lifestyle work, events… and let’s be real, half the battle is just knowing where to even start.
Good news though , we’re in the era of social media, and it’s the perfect place to kick things off. Post your work. Collaborate with local businesses. Say yes to events. The more you put yourself out there, the more your brand will start to build naturally.
You’ll also need to start gathering your resources. Big question: do you need a website? Honestly, yes even a simple one can make you look way more legit. If you’re just starting out, I highly recommend keeping it simple. Squarespace is super beginner-friendly, and Shopify has clean templates too. I wouldn’t jump into WordPress or anything that requires crazy coding skills trust me, save yourself the headache for later. Plus, Squarespace and Shopify are pretty budget-friendly when you're just getting off the ground.
Then comes the fun part building your brand image. Think about your vibe: What colors represent you? Who do you want to work with? Tailor your portfolio to match that. (It makes a difference.)
As for editing, don’t sleep on Canva it’s gotten way better and it’s amazing for quick social media content. If you want to dive deeper, Photoshop is the classic go-to. Never touched Photoshop before? YouTube will be your best friend. There are so many easy tutorials out there.
At the end of the day, experience is everything. Don’t overthink it. Start messy if you have to , just start.
